Allora Labs / Upshot - NFT and Crypto Defi Liquidity Pool

Project Overview

As the lead product designer at a Upshot (now known as Allora Labs), I was responsible for the design of our end to end NFT and Ethereum Liquidity Pool. This platform empowers users to contribute their NFTs and/or tokens to one or more liquidity positions, earning rewards for their participation. I worked super closely with product managers, leadership, stakeholders, and engineers, doing everything from research and user testing to design deliverables and implementation.

Project Goals

To create a mechanism that could provide liquidity for illiquid NFTs and enhance capital efficiency for tokens, offering users a new innovative way to earn rewards while simplifying the user experience. This would allow users to track their assets and automate liquidity positions

Challenges

Illiquidity of NFTs

NFTs are unique and non-fungible, making them inherently illiquid compared to fungible tokens. Owners often struggled to unlock value from their NFTs without selling them outright.

Suboptimal Token Utilization

While fungible tokens offered more liquidity, traditional staking or farming mechanisms often locked assets with limited flexibility or concentrated risk.

Lack of Diverse Earning

Users in the crypto space wanted a more diverse ways to earn returns on their digital assets beyond simple holding or basic staking.

Complexity of DeFi

Existing DeFi solutions for liquidity provision were often complex and intimidating for new users, hindering broader adoption.

Process

My process included market research, user testing and interviews, wireframe and prototypes, reviews and testing within the web3 NFT, Crypto investing, trading, staking and liquidity markets.

Discovery and Research

Conducted user interviews with web3 and NFT users within the crypto space and researched existing crypto, bitcoin, ethereum and other token liquidity pools.

Wireframes and Prototypes

Created end to end user flows, wireframes and prototypes to help test user interaction design and get feedback from the community.

IA and User Flows

Working with product and engineering I helped put together user flows and information architecture diagrams.

Final Designs and Deliverables

In collaboration with engineering, I delivered fully annotated final visual designs and prototypes to help engineering implement the UI.

Smart Contracts and DeFi

Educated and learned a lot of information about the technical features and limitations of smart contracts and crypto liquidity.

Market Gaps UI / UX / Accessibility

Not many products existed to allow users to have the option to deposit NFT’s and/or their cryptocurrency tokens.

Adoption Rate

Helped increase adoption rate by also running a marketing campaign with a new website, branding and social media graphics.

Business Impact

Helped increase our global user base by around 18%, and liquidity assets by $500M
